Seon DHC GPS Issues
Purpose
The purpose of this document is to outline the procedures and considerations for addressing recurring "GPS Requiring Attention" messages identified during the Daily Health Check (DHC) reports for Seon DVR systems. It aims to ensure consistent and effective troubleshooting to maintain accurate GPS functionality.
Scope
This document applies to all buses equipped with Seon DVR systems that appear on the Daily Health Check report with GPS-related alerts. It covers the identification, evaluation, and resolution of GPS antenna issues specific to the Seon system and does not extend to other GPS systems used for different applications.
Responsibilities
Every day the Daily Health Check is performed, and one of the issues that can be listed in that report is a 'GPS Requiring Attention' message.
When only a single event occurs, it can normally be ignored. The Seon-DHC spreadsheet is setup to see duplicate entries over the course of a few weeks.
The Seon DVR's GPS Antenna is separate from all other systems, and is only used for Seon.
This antenna attaches to the back of the DVR. Shown below is one model of our DVRs, and it's the cable directly above the blue ethernet cable.

This antenna cable is a longer cable that has a GPS antenna that is magnetic on the other end. I have found that these are typically coiled and placed in a way that can try to get a signal, usually as high as possible. Shown below is the antenna.

If the bus appears on the DHC multiple times, here is what can be done:
1) Observe the antenna cable to see if there are any breaks, bends or damage to any part of the cable
2) As the antenna is magnetic, attempt to place this as high as possible in order to get a better signal.
3) Check the connection of the GPS cable connector to the DVR in order to ensure it is a good connection and not loose.
